A remarkable safari hideaway bordering Yala National Park, where private plunge-pool cabins, exceptional wildlife encounters and a strong sense of place bring a distinctly Sri Lankan character to the wild.

THE EXPERIENCE
THE EXPERIENCE
Set between the jungle and the Indian Ocean on the edge of Yala National Park, Uga Chena Huts brings together two of Sri Lanka’s most compelling landscapes. Days begin on safari in search of elephants, leopards and sloth bears, before returning to the coast for quiet afternoons beside your private plunge pool or walks along the wild beach. The individual thatched cabins feel wonderfully secluded, with generous interiors inspired by the surrounding landscape and wildlife. Add excellent Sri Lankan food, atmospheric evenings beneath the stars and expert-guided game drives, and it delivers the thrill of safari without sacrificing the intimacy and comfort of a genuinely special retreat.

Hayley's Take
hAYLEY'S TAKE
This is exactly how I’d want to do safari in Sri Lanka. You get the excitement of heading into Yala looking for leopards and elephants, but you come back to somewhere intimate and genuinely luxurious. I particularly love that the huts sit between jungle and ocean: you never really leave the wilderness, even when you’re back in your own plunge pool.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY
Colombo → Cultural Triangle → Kandy → Yala → South Coast I'd spend a few nights around Sigiriya and Kandy first, then travel down through the tea country to Chena Huts for 3 nights of leopard and elephant drives in Yala. I'd finish with a few slower days on the south coast near Galle.
