THE EXPERIENCE

THE EXPERIENCE

Set high in the volcanic landscape of Santa Cruz Island, Pikaia offers a wonderfully different way to experience the Galápagos, exploring by day, then returning to the space and comfort of a beautifully designed lodge. Adventures take you across the archipelago by private yacht and overland with expert naturalist guides, encountering giant tortoises, marine iguanas, sea lions and the extraordinary wildlife that makes these islands unlike anywhere else on earth. Back at Pikaia, floor-to-ceiling windows frame the wild landscape, while the infinity pool, spa and excellent Ecuadorian cuisine provide a luxurious counterpoint to days of exploration. It combines the freedom of a land-based stay with the access of a Galápagos voyage, without having to spend every night at sea.

Hayley's Take

hAYLEY'S TAKE

Pikaia solves one of the biggest dilemmas I have with the Galápagos: you can experience the islands fully without having to spend your whole trip on a boat. I love that you still head out by private yacht to explore different islands, but at the end of the day you're coming home to a beautiful lodge, plenty of space, a pool and a great meal. Add giant tortoises wandering around the reserve and this is exactly my kind of wildlife adventure.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

Quito → Cloud Forest → Galápagos I'd start with 2 nights in Quito, head out to Mashpi for 3 nights in the cloud forest, then fly to the Galápagos for 4–5 nights at Pikaia. You get two completely different sides of Ecuador's wildlife in one trip.
