WHY IT MADE THE COLLECTION
WHY IT MADE THE COLLECTION

Sixteen rooms hidden behind an unassuming façade in the heart of Oaxaca. Otro takes the colours and traditions of the city and translates them into something strikingly contemporary: raw brick, local limestone, reclaimed wood and craftsmanship made by Oaxacan hands. Step outside and Santo Domingo is directly opposite; disappear downstairs and an extraordinary subterranean spa waits beneath the city.

THE EXPERIENCE
THE EXPERIENCE
Oaxaca is a city to eat your way around. Start slowly on Otro's rooftop, then disappear into markets, mezcalerías, galleries and tiny restaurants before heading beyond the city to ancient Monte Albán or the agave fields and palenques beyond. Back at Otro, swim overlooking Santo Domingo, descend underground for a treatment or gather around the rooftop table for dinner cooked over charcoal.

Santo Domingo sits directly opposite, while Oaxaca's markets, restaurants, galleries, bars and artisan workshops spill out through the surrounding streets. This is a hotel that puts you right inside the destination rather than observing it from the edge.

Head beyond the city to meet the people behind Oaxaca's most famous spirit, following agave from the fields to a working palenque before tasting the striking differences between varieties and producers.

Hayley's Take
hAYLEY'S TAKE
Oaxaca is exactly the sort of city I'd want to explore through Canopy: incredible food, rich culture and enough going on that the hotel shouldn't become the whole trip. Otro gets that balance right. It's tiny and beautifully designed, but you're also directly in the middle of the city. I'd stay three or four nights and plan almost every day around what I was going to eat next.
