WHY IT MADE THE COLLECTION

WHY IT MADE THE COLLECTION

In a city where exceptional hotels aren't exactly hard to find, Capella has created something that feels genuinely connected to Kyoto. Sitting within the historic geiko district of Miyagawa-cho, its contemporary take on the traditional machiya brings together Kengo Kuma architecture, local craftsmanship, private onsens and experiences that take you beyond simply observing the city's traditions. This is Kyoto with extraordinary access, and a beautiful place to come home to afterwards.

THE EXPERIENCE

THE EXPERIENCE

Step outside and you're already in one of Kyoto's historic flower districts, moments from Kenninji Temple and the lanes of Gion. Spend the day with craftspeople, temples and traditions curated by Capella's local Culturists before returning for a private onsen and an evening built around Kyoto's seasons, whether that's kappo at YOI or the tiny SoNoMa by SingleThread counter.

Your Own Onsen

Choose one of just six Onsen Suites and the ritual of Japanese bathing becomes part of your room. Each has its own natural hot-spring bath overlooking a quiet internal garden, a wonderfully private retreat after a day exploring the city.

Hayley's Take

hAYLEY'S TAKE

Kyoto is somewhere I'd want the hotel to deepen the experience rather than compete with it. That's what I like about Capella. You're right in Miyagawa-cho, surrounded by traditions that are still part of everyday life, but behind the doors you've got incredible contemporary design and real luxury. If budget allows, I'd absolutely go for one of the six Onsen Suites.
